Cumberland County kept documents from law firm, attorney claims

BRIDGETON - A Philadelphia attorney is suing Cumberland County, alleging that the county has yet to turn over documents and other material from an Open Public Records Act request related to allegations of excessive force against two inmates in the Cumberland County Jail. Conrad J. Benedetto is representing Rashee Barlow, 27, of Cortland, New York, and Raheem Jacobs, 26, of Bridgeton - both of whom have claimed two separate incidents of assault and abuse by corrections officers while serving time in the Cumberland County Jail earlier this year.

Cortland Rep to Open 44th Season with Always a Bridsmaid

Cortland Repertory Theatre kicks off their 44th season at the Little York Pavilion in Preble with the theatre's premiere production of the hysterical new comedy Always a Bridesmaid, written by Jessie J ones , Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. Performances will run from June 3rd - 13th with evening performances at 7:30 PM.

Police: I-81 crash kills 2 Cortland teens, injures 1

A crash on Interstate 81 near Homer killed two Cortland teens and injured one Friday night, according to the New York State Police Department. The teenagers have been identified as 17-year-old Andrea Czimmer, the driver; 18-year-old Michael Conlon, the front seat passenger; and 17-year-old Alexis Porter, the rear seat driver side passenger.

181-year-old Central New York manufacturer to close, lay off 89 workers

Apex Tool Group, which traces its roots in Cortland back to 1834, will close its manufacturing plant in the city by the end of the year and lay off its 89 employees. Apex said Friday it will move the work done at the factory to newer plants in York, Pa., and Sumter, S.C. Kelly Blask, a spokeswoman for the company, said the facility at 45 Cleveland St. has been operating below capacity for some time.

Hazmat scare over, but donations needed for Cortland Co. SPCA

Both animals and staff of the Cortland County SPCA are expected to be OK after an emergency this morning that required a hazmat team and sent several staffers to the hospital. After spending the day in outdoor cages, the 20 cats exposed to an errant and dangerous mixture of lime sulfur and bleach have returned to their adoption area and are expected to be fine.

Police take man into custody in homicide of 16-year-old girl in Cortland County

Around 3:30 p.m. Friday Cortland police officers were called to a house at 66 Lincoln Ave. Someone arrived at the house, found the girl dead and called 911, WXHC reported. Police did not identify the 16-year-old victim, who is a student in the Cortland schools.
