Cops: Man in SUV hit by gunfire from another vehicle on I-81
State police say a man is recovering from a hand wound suffered when the sport utility vehicle he was in was hit by gunfire from another vehicle traveling on Interstate 81 in central New York. Troopers say a call to 911 around 3:20 a.m. Thursday reported gunshots being fired from one vehicle at an SUV traveling south on I-81 in the Cortland County town of Preble, 20 miles south of Syracuse.

Naturalist and author to share experiences exploring nooks and crannies of Ocala forest
Fulton, a master naturalist and author, will share his experience of hiking and biking more than 130 miles of forest trails and his trail guidebook "Hiking Trails in the Ocala National Forest" at 6 p.m. Friday at Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 E. County Road 44. Fulton, 68, who lives half of the year in Cortland, N.Y., and the other half in DeLand, loves nothing more than sharing his love for the outdoors and helping others safely explore the miles he treks. He will share photos and experiences of what he has discovered along miles of trails in Ocala - from the lakes and prairies to the abundant variety of wildlife in the forest.

The New York State Police said Richard T. Stevens, 18, of 26 Grant St., Cortland, was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine, a felony. Natalie C. Castor, 24, of 353 Coldbrook Road, Homer, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Bowlers Brandon and Storm Grant roll 700 series for undefeated Homer
Brandon and Storm Grant each rolled seven hundred series as Homer won its seventh straight bowling contest of the season with 3-0 sweep over Cortland in an Onondaga High School League match. Brandon Grant lead all bowlers with a 747 aeries that included games of 246, 279 and 222.
