Section III basketball heats up with several contenders

Teams like Henninger, Bishop Ludden, Nottingham and CBA all have legitimate claims to being the best "large" school in the area. The Warriors are ranked #1 in New York State Class B Basketball and take on Henninger Saturday, we'll have the best plays from that game at 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, on Friday Christian Brothers Academy went on an 18-0 run in the third and fourth quarters to defeat the Cortland Purple Tigers, 69-59, Friday night.

Gary Dillingham, SUNY Cortland mat champ, long-time coach, dies of heart attack

Gary Dillingham, a 1962 SUNY Athletic Conference champion wrestler at SUNY-Cortland who went on to a long coaching career at Cortland High School, died of an apparent heart attack while maintaining statistics at a high school wrestling event Wednesday night, the Syracuse Post-Standard reported Thursday. Born in Buffalo in Oct. 1938, Ralph Gary Dillingham was keeping statistics at a multi-team meet with Solvay, Westhill, and J-D/CBA when he collapsed, according to Cortland superintendent Michael Hoose.

Might Assemblywoman Lifton be vulnerable to a 2016 primary?

Lifton's district, though, pretty much screamed reform in September, when Zephyr Teachout thrashed Governor Cuomo 3464-1415 in Tompkins County, the bulk of her district, and 444-304 in Cortland County, of which Lifton represent a part. To put it another way, Teachout got more votes in a Governor's race with low turnout than Lifton got in Tompkins County in the 2002 primary that began her legislative career: 3340 .

Cortland woman arrested for stealing thousands from her employer

Ithaca Police were called to Fall Creek Family Dentist at 501 North Cayuga Street in July of 2014 when the office manager found discrepancies in the books. The office manager told investigators that an employee, 40-year-old Sheila Shattuck, was modifying the business records that involved cash transactions and was pocketing the cash for in-house sales.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Cortland County Sheriff's Department assisted the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department with a reported stolen vehicle. New Paltz Hawks Enjoy 2-0 SUNYAC Weekend

The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team enjoyed an undefeated conference weekend by defeating Geneseo 57-47 on Saturday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference action at the Hawk Center. With the win, the Hawks move above .500 at 6-5, 3-2 SUNYAC and close out their brief three-game homestand on Tuesday, Jan. 13 against Trinity at 7 p.m. Geneseo, meanwhile, moves to 6-4, 2-1 SUNYAC and hosts conference opponent Cortland on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. New Paltz handed the Knights their first league loss of the season thanks to senior guard Shannan Walker and junior guard Goldie Harrison who led the offense with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Schumer To Jets' Johnson: Keep Jets Training Camp In Cortland

Last year more than 20,000 people visited SUNY Cortland during the summer to watch the New York Jets training camp, bringing with them over $20 million for the local economy. Now that the Jets have fired Head Coach Rex Ryan, who moved the team to Cortland in 2009, Senator Charles Schumer is calling on 'Gang Green' to return and consider making SUNY Cortland a permanent training camp home.
